Fine Dining at the Grand Wailea: Humuhumunukunukuapua’a

Where it is: Humuhumunukunukuapua’a (or Humuhumu for short) is located at the Grand Wailea Resort, floating on a pretty lagoon, near the beach, surrounded by beautiful ocean views. I don’t think there is a bad seat in this stunning, Polynesian thatch-roof restaurant, however, if you want the BEST seat, then ask for Table 70 (an exclusive, custom dining experience).

The service: The service at Humuhumu was outstanding!  The general manager, Justin and our server, Christina were top-notch! The restaurant was busy, but we felt like we were the only ones there. Christina was very knowledgeable about the menu, the drinks, and was able to make wonderful pairing suggestions. She checked in on us regularly and really made sure we enjoyed everything.

What we ate: The first time we dined at Humuhumu, we were able to try three appetizers: The Spicy beef, Hamachi Carpaccio, and the Hokkaido Scallops.  All three were delicious! Highly recommend! Honestly, I couldn’t pick just one as my favorite, all three were equally amazing

For our entrées, I had the Crispy Mahi Mahi, which was prepared with a jalapeno lychee orange sauce, served with forbidden rice, crispy Maui onions, and fried Brussel sprouts.  My husband ordered the 12 oz. Rangers Valley Wagyu NY Steak. The meat was seasoned well and cooked to perfection.  Both kids had the grilled chicken with roasted potatoes and vegetables.  Very delicious!

We had such an amazing experience at HumuHumu, we decided to come back for our anniversary dinner five days later.  We dropped the kids off at The Rock and enjoyed a romantic dinner alone.  We arrived at the restaurant a little early, so we sat at the bar and ordered two signature cocktails (‘Shore Breaks’). As we were sitting at the bar enjoying our drinks, Christina, our server from 5 days ago, stopped by to say ‘Hello.’ We were pleasantly surprised that she even remembered us! (Another proof of their top-notch service.)

Once we were seated, we ordered our drinks and started off with the Spicy beef (we would have ordered all three appetizers we tried last time, but we didn’t’ have the kids to help us eat).  For my entrée, I picked the Filet and lobster and Chad decided to stick with the 12 oz. Rangers Valley Wagyu NY Steak he had last time (very original?) .  My meal was delicious; the filet and Béarnaise were a match made in heaven, the lobster, however, needed a little bit more salt for my taste buds (but enjoyed every single bite, nonetheless!)

Overall, the ambience, the food, and the views were amazing. Highly recommend Humuhumu even if you don’t stay at the Grand Wailea. We will definitely go back! ?? to Chef Mike Lofaro and big Mahalo to Justin!?
